Our goal is to become a primary contractor and project management contractor in the construction work field from Japan to overseas.
Through various business with the U.S. Government in Japan (U.S. Military Construction), we are building up experience and achievements, accumulating skills and know-hows in construction work overseas, aiming to enter overseas construction markets in the future.
Japan’s construction quality is highly recognized in many other countries, especially in ODA (Official Development Assistance), however the Japanese construction companies are still mainly active in its home market. Japanese general contractors concentrating and specializing in overseas markets are extremely rare and we have not yet encountered.
We aim to become a leading construction company exporting Japanese technologies and services that are known as “Japanese Construction Quality”.
That is our ambition and our goal.
We believe that our core competence lies in our project management capabilities to expand Japanese construction technologies overseas and to become a world-class general contractor.
Even with great construction qualities and technologies, it is very difficult to obtain completion experience in U.S. military construction. New entrants may have felt this way when entering this market. Many companies try to enter the market. But the reality is, only a small number of those companies continue their challenge and remain active.
What are the obstacles and barriers for the entrants? We have been trying to understand in depth, focusing our efforts to understand and analyze the root of these obstacles and provide solutions.
First of all, above all else, there is a shortage of personnel who possesses U.S. certification. Finding personnel who suit the company’s culture is also difficult.
Second of all, it requires analytical and judgmental skills to see a project through from English written design drawings to smooth completion.
Even if you meet valuable personnel, it is difficult to judge their skills as they have different levels of experience and areas of expertise.
We pursue accuracy by identifying discrepancies between the drawings and specifications/conditions, and then perform accurate checks and estimate the construction cost.
Any omission in the understanding of the drawings will lead to a cost estimation error, therefore it is very important. Even after proper cost estimate is made, the ability to coordinate numerous factors, such as seasonal and weather variables, manpower planning, etc., is also extremely important.
For new entrants, there are hurdles to overcome, from the preparation of bidding documents to the reading and understanding of construction terminology and specifications, all of which are in English and written in response to the U.S. government. Therefore, people tend to think that participation in bidding and getting awarded are the goals, but they are not.
In order to continue to develop in the U.S. military construction industry, the U.S. Military evaluation of construction performance data will become very important in subsequent bidding reviews.
For domestic construction projects, once a bid is awarded, there is a sense of relief. Most of the work is completed without any issues, except for special projects that require advanced technical capabilities.
For U.S. military construction projects, however, the difficulty lies in the period from bid award to construction completion, and it is important to have the skills and know-how, as well as the leadership function and organization, to make a comprehensive judgment of the various factors involved and lead the project safely, appropriately, and efficiently to successful completion.
We believe that this is what we call Project Management (PM) capability and Project Management (PM) team capability.
We have created an extremely rare position in Japan by offering our accumulated skills and know-how as an intellectual and intangible asset to companies that have or are looking to enter the U.S. military construction industry.
In this closed market of the U.S. military construction, the Project Management know-how and skills accumulated by the company is limited to its own business expansion, creating corporate value. It is only natural for companies to keep knowledge to themselves to avoid losing the very core of their business.
Moreover, it is often dependent on individual skills, and that information, knowledge, skills, and know-how are also often limited.
In order to overcome those problems, we have built a knowledge management system and accumulated solution capabilities as an organization and structure.
It took a long time for us to be recognized for the value of our intangible assets, but now, major corporations, both domestic and international are seeking our services.
We are proud to say that the foundation of our success in gaining recognition for the value of our services and receiving orders is the accumulation of the efforts of each one of our employees, who have become innovators and pioneered the way forward.
Due to the nature of operations, there are difficulties that our core competence can only be formed by business partners who appreciate the value of our core competence. In an industry where barriers to new entrants are considered high, we will continue to grow into a company loved by the partners who share our values for many years to come by taking on the challenge of developing new business models.
